WOODSEATS FESTIVAL
Sunday 13th July 2008

HERE BE DRAGONS!
There’ll be terrifying and fabulous beasts out and about in Woodseats (and we’re not just talking about the regular weekend nightlife) when the festival community parade takes to the streets.
Local children have been working hard to create a magnificent menagerie of amazing animals to carry in the parade, so come along and see Frank the Fearsome shark, Woody the Cheerleading Dragon and Jemmy the magical White Giraffe. They will be joined by a whole host of brilliant constructions including peacocks, fish and flowers, created at schools, homes and festival workshops.
Leading the parade will be Bongo Bert and the Woodseats Children’s Bongo Band and everyone is welcome to join in.
FESTIVAL WORKSHOPS
Workshops to prepare for the festival parade are taking place at the Double Six Youth Club on Scarsdale Road in June and July. Come along and see what you can do!
RAFFLE TICKETS NOW ON SALE
Don’t forget to buy a raffle ticket for the festival! Entry to all festival events and workshops is free, but we can only keep it that way by raising funds. Raffle tickets are just 50p each, and when you buy a raffle ticket you’ll be helping to ensure that the festival remains free and open to all. Of course you may also win a fabulous prize!
Raffle tickets are now on sale at a number of local retailers including: Abbeymoor Veterinarians, Alex Gage opticians, Bairstow Eves, Betfred, Books Galore, Cartridge World, Envy, Feet First, DW Garret Jewellers, Gent's Division, Home & Garden DIY, Moorview Health and Beauty, The Pine House, Pyramid Carpets, Scissors, Seashells Cafe, Sunkiss, Twinkletoes, Unit 1, Woodseats Fisheries and Woodseats Superpets.
Look out too for the festival stall outside Tesco in Woodseats on Saturday 28th June and 5th and 12th July. You’ll be able to buy raffle tickets, pick up a programme of events and even offer your services as a festival volunteer!
VOLUNTEER STEWARDS NEEDED
Can you help to keep the festival running smoothly on Sunday 13th July? We need people to offer their help as parade stewards and also to help with setting up and clearing down on the day. Tombola running skills also welcomed! Please contact the festival to volunteer your services and a lovely limited edition festival T-shirt will be yours!
5-A-SIDE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
It’s the talk of Woodseats! The first ever Woodseats Businesses 5-a-side football tournament will be held at the festival in Woodseats School Yard at the inflatable pitch. A trophy has been kindly donated by Feet First and it’s sure to be hotly contested in what we hope will become an annual competition. If you work in a local business and are interested in entering a team, please contact the festival ASAP to book a place.
CHILDREN’S ART COMPETITION

Congratulations to our 1st Prize winner Emma Silverwood, aged 8 of Woodseats School. Emma’s lovely colourful painting of playing on her scooter in Graves Park can now be seen on all festival posters and programmes.
Well done and thanks to Emma and to all the children who took part, and huge thanks also to local artist Vera Phenix, who had the original idea for the festival children’s art competition, and who generously donated prizes for the winners.
Winners were as follows:
1st Prize – Emma Silverwood, Woodseats School
2nd Prize – Matthew Hardy, Woodseats School
3rd Prize – Sophie, Holmhirst Pre-School
LIVE MUSIC
Once again Woodseats Festival will be championing young talent by giving promising musicians a chance to show their flare on the festival stage. Leading the way this year will be a performance by Kinch, winners of Leeds ‘Bright Young Things 2008’ competition. Previous competition winners include Corinne Bailey Rae and The Music, and with their first single out later this year, Kinch are hotly tipped for great things, so we are really pleased that they have agreed to come and perform for us at Woodseats.
Kinch, all still just 18, play brilliant funky indie-pop tunes, and their high-energy performance is guaranteed to have festivalgoers up and dancing. Don’t miss your chance to say you saw them at Woodseats Festival first!
CLASSIC CARS & INTERESTING VEHICLES!
Do you own a Classic Car or other interesting vehicle? If you do, why not bring it along to Woodseats Festival?
It doesn’t have to be a classic, or vintage - ‘Beauty is in the eye of the beholder’ – So, if it’s interesting and well turned out we’d love you to come and show it off. Contact us for details of how to book your space at the vehicle display. Alternatively please print out and return the Car Show Registration Form found here.
